Many misunderstandings come from confusing “encrypted traffic on a connection” with “no one can track you.” Even when encryption is used in transit, your device, apps, accounts, and browser behavior can still reveal information.
How it works in practice
At a concept level, a VPN creates a protected tunnel between your device and a VPN endpoint, then sends your outbound traffic through that endpoint. From your perspective, websites see traffic coming from the VPN endpoint rather than your local network.
